With a bit of maintenance \u2013 usually just a battery replacement \u2013 you can easily bring this little speedboat back to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Signs your FT010 needs attention<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you regularly run into issues such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sudden cut-offs during use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduced run-time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A noticeable drop in top speed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The battery or motor feeling unusually hot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An inability to charge fully<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These problems usually point to an ageing LiPo battery, poor electrical connections, water ingress, or a damaged propeller. Any of these could be the root cause behind your FT010 losing its speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to replace the battery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FT010 uses a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.all-battery.co.uk\/item\/20219568\/FT011\">14.8V (4S) LiPo battery pack<\/a>. Replacing it is dead simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Switch off all power and dry the outside of the hull thoroughly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the battery hatch.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carefully disconnect the old battery pack. Take note of the connector orientation and any hook-and-loop straps securing it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inspect the battery compartment for dampness or corrosion. If necessary, clean the contacts with isopropyl alcohol and let all parts dry completely.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insert a fresh, fully charged battery. Secure it firmly to stop it shifting around at high speeds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reconnect the battery, close the hatch firmly to maintain the seal, and double-check that it is locked in place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow your usual binding or powering-up routine, and test the boat in a safe area.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beyond the battery: Other tweaks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your FT010 still isn&#8217;t performing at its best after fitting a new battery, check the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Clean the battery contacts<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Every couple of months, wipe down the metal contacts on both the battery and the ESC with a cloth dabbed in alcohol. This ensures efficient power delivery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inspect the drive shaft<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The original &#8220;dog-bone&#8221; coupling design is known to have its flaws. If you notice vibration or wobbling at lower speeds, the drive shaft may need greasing or replacing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check the propeller<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A damaged or bent propeller will drag down your speed. Make sure the propeller is clean and free of nicks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Upgrade to a brushless motor<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Mind you, this is a much bigger project. The conversion isn&#8217;t cheap, but the performance boost is massive. If you are handy with a soldering iron, it is definitely worth considering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Feilun FT010 is a brilliant little entry-level speedboat that punches well above its weight \u2013 provided it is running properly. If its performance isn&#8217;t what it used to be, don&#8217;t rush to scrap it.
