Poor Sales Force Samsung to End Galaxy Edge Series Ahead of Galaxy S26 Launch

Posted on October 29, 2025

Samsung Electronics has decided to discontinue its ultra-thin smartphone line, the “Edge” series, just five months after its launch in May. The decision reportedly stems from sales that fell significantly short of expectations. As a result, the Galaxy S26 lineup, scheduled for release in January, is expected to include only the S26 (Pro), S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra models.

According to a report by News Fim on October 16, Samsung recently informed employees that it will end production of the Slim series and halt development of the Galaxy S26 Edge. Sales of the existing Galaxy S25 Edge will continue until current inventory is depleted. Industry sources consider the chances of reviving the Slim series to be low.

Although development of the S26 Edge has been completed, Samsung may still release it as a standalone model in the future.

The Galaxy S25 Edge was introduced on May 23 but received a lukewarm market response. Its 3,900 mAh battery capacity and relatively high price drew criticism.

Data from Hana Investment Securities shows that the device sold only 190,000 units in its first month, compared with 1.17 million for the Galaxy S25, 840,000 for the S25 Plus, and 2.55 million for the S25 Ultra. By August, total sales of the Edge had reached 1.31 million units, while the S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra recorded 8.28 million, 5.05 million, and 12.18 million units, respectively.

Samsung had initially positioned the Edge line as a “next-generation trend” and planned to make it the flagship model of the S26 series, replacing the Plus variant. However, weaker-than-expected demand prompted the company to revert to the Plus model. This shift is widely interpreted as signaling the discontinuation of the Edge lineup.

At the Galaxy S26 Unpacked event in January, Samsung is expected to introduce three models—S26 (Pro), S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra—confirming the removal of the Edge variant from the lineup.

Industry analysts view the decision as a strategic retreat reflecting market realities. Despite the technological sophistication of ultra-thin smartphones, they have struggled to meet consumer expectations in key areas such as battery life and price competitiveness.
