Mitsubishi Electric’s MR-BAT6V1 battery is a critical component designed to safeguard the performance of servo drive systems. By providing reliable backup power to absolute position encoders, it ensures that essential position data remains intact during unexpected power outages or routine maintenance shutdowns.

Without this safeguard, industrial machines risk losing critical encoder information, which can trigger unnecessary system downtime and necessitate time-consuming recalibration processes.

Engineering and Design

The MR-BAT6V1 is a non-rechargeable primary lithium battery engineered specifically for compatibility with Mitsubishi’s AC servo product lineup. Its construction features two CR17335A cylindrical lithium manganese dioxide cells, assembled into a 2CR17335A configuration (model 2CR17335A WK17E) and equipped with integrated lead wires and a connector.

Installation and Safety Guidelines

The MR-BAT6V1 is designed for straightforward installation, connecting directly to compatible servo amplifiers. Because this is a primary (non-rechargeable) battery, it is not user-serviceable. To maintain optimal system integrity, the entire unit should be replaced once its capacity is depleted.

Safety is paramount when handling lithium cells. Per the official Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), users must adhere to strict handling protocols to avoid hazardous incidents:

  • Never attempt to recharge or disassemble the unit.
  • Do not short-circuit the terminals.
  • Do not expose the battery to temperatures exceeding 100 °C. Failure to follow these precautions could result in electrolyte leakage, extreme overheating, or fire.

Compatibility and Applications

The MR-BAT6V1 is the standard replacement battery for several of Mitsubishi Electric’s modern servo amplifier families, including:

  • MR-J4 Series (the primary application)
  • MR-JE Series
  • MR-JET Series

When paired with these amplifiers, the battery enables absolute position detection for HG-series servo motors. It is an essential component in motion-control applications where high precision is non-negotiable, such as semiconductor manufacturing, robotics, CNC machinery, and high-speed packaging equipment.

While specific variants like the MR-BAT6V1SET (including auxiliary cabling) or the MR-BAT6V1BJ (for junction battery cable applications) offer flexibility for complex setups, the base MR-BAT6V1 model remains the industry standard for reliable servo memory backup.
