Design and Build Quality
The V700 features a modern, slim smartphone-style form factor, measuring 165 × 76 × 15.6 mm and weighing around 250g. It boasts a top-tier IP67 rating, meaning it is completely dustproof and can withstand immersion in water up to 1 metre deep. It is also certified to MIL-STD-810G military standards to withstand shocks, vibrations, and extreme environments. This makes it ideal for harsh outdoor settings or heavy industrial use.
The C5000 utilises a more traditional industrial terminal design, often featuring physical keys or a keypad alongside the touchscreen for rapid data entry. It is slightly heavier, weighing approximately 275g including the battery, and carries an IP65 rating. This provides effective protection against dust and water jets, but it lacks the full immersion capabilities or military-grade testing standards of the V700. Additionally, certain C5000 configurations or related models in the series support an integrated printing function for instant label or receipt printing, a feature not available on the standard V700.
Performance and Software
The V700 runs on a newer Android platform, which is Android 10 or higher depending on the specific configuration, and is powered by an octa-core processor such as the MT6762 or MTK6765. Storage configurations typically start at 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM, with higher options available. This setup allows it to run modern applications more efficiently, handle multitasking smoothly, and better accommodate future software updates.
In contrast, the C5000 runs on an older Android 7.0 system equipped with a quad-core processor clocked at around 1.3 GHz, coming standard with 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM. Whilst it remains perfectly capable of handling basic scanning and data collection tasks, its performance can fall short when dealing with demanding applications or newer operating system features.
Display, Camera, and Scanning
Both models feature a 5-inch display with a 1280 × 720 resolution, but the V700’s IPS panel offers superior viewing angles and clarity. The V700 comes equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera and supports an advanced 2D barcode scanner, which delivers fast reads on various barcodes even in low light or when labels are damaged. Optional NFC and fingerprint recognition further extend its versatility.
The C5000 offers a similar 5-inch resolution and dependable 1D/2D barcode scanning, with optional RFID reading capabilities. Its scanning performance is highly reliable for standard workflows, but it is generally less advanced than the optimised engine found in the V700.
Connectivity and Usability
The V700 offers a comprehensive suite of modern connectivity features, including dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, full 4G LTE with broadband support, dual SIM slots, GPS/GLONASS, and NFC. An optional cradle supports fast charging and data synchronisation.
The C5000 provides dependable 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity suited to its era, alongside robust foundational scanning and data capture functions. Its physical keypad is particularly advantageous when operating with gloves or when rapid data entry is required, as pure touchscreen operation can be less practical in these scenarios.
Choosing Between the Two Models
