The Entel DX585M-IS is a rugged UHF handheld radio designed for demanding marine and hazardous environments, delivering reliable analogue and DMR communications performance. Regular maintenance ensures it remains ready for use whenever you need it most.
Daily Maintenance
After use, especially in saltwater environments, rinse the radio with fresh water and dry it thoroughly using a soft, lint-free cloth. The anti-corrosive chassis coating helps prevent corrosion, but removing salty residue prevents long-term issues. Always fit the accessory connector cover when no accessories are connected. This protects the gold-plated terminals from corrosion and maintains the waterproof seal.
Store the radio in a dry location within a temperature range of -20 °C to +55 °C. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat. Inspect the antenna connection, volume and channel controls, and belt clip regularly for wear and tear. Use only genuine Entel accessories. Unapproved batteries may compromise the UL913 intrinsically safe rating.
Battery Care and Charging
This radio uses the CNB450E-IS 7.6V 2200mAh Li-ion battery pack. Always switch off the radio before charging and place either the battery or the radio with the battery attached into the drop-in charger. The LED indicator lights up red during charging and turns green once fully charged. A full charge from flat usually takes around 6 hours.
To achieve optimal service life, charge the radio if it has been left idle for more than 30 days. When storing spare batteries long-term, separate them from the radio and keep them in a cool, well-ventilated place, topping up the charge every three months. Proper care ensures the battery retains good capacity over hundreds of charge cycles.
Replacing the Battery Pack
Replacing the battery pack is quick and straightforward, requiring no tools:
- Switch the radio off completely.
- To remove: Pull the two catches downwards and carefully slide the battery pack out of the radio body.
- To fit a new CNB450E-IS battery: Align the tabs at the bottom of the battery with the slots on the radio. Pull the catches downwards, push the battery pack firmly into place, then release the catches so it locks securely.
Following these simple habits will ensure your DX585M-IS continues to deliver clear, reliable communications even in the harshest conditions.
