Google Enables Cross-Platform File Sharing Between Android and iPhone via AirDrop–Quick Share Integration

Posted on November 21, 2025

Google has introduced a cross-platform file sharing feature that enables transfers between iPhone and Android devices. The function integrates Apple’s AirDrop and Google’s Quick Share, allowing direct exchange of files between supported products.

The feature works on Apple devices including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and on Google’s Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Fold models.

To receive a file from a Pixel 10 device, users of Apple products must set AirDrop visibility to “Everyone for 10 Minutes.” With this setting enabled, incoming transfers from Android devices appear identical to those from iPhone users, including the same notification and acceptance prompt.

For transfers in the opposite direction, Pixel 10 users must activate “Everyone for 10 Minutes” or enable Receive mode on the Quick Share page. Files received on Pixel devices are stored in the Files app.

Google states that the interoperability between Quick Share and AirDrop uses a multi-layered security system to protect users on both platforms. The system includes a secure sharing channel, built-in platform protections for Android and iOS, and mandatory user consent before a transfer is completed. Connections are peer-to-peer, ensuring that data does not pass through external servers. During transfers, both devices display each other’s names for verification.

Currently, the feature operates only in the “Everyone for 10 Minutes” AirDrop mode. Google has expressed interest in collaborating with Apple to extend support to the “Contacts Only” mode in the future.
