Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max Debut With Rear Secondary Displays and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Posted on September 26, 2025

Xiaomi has unveiled the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, both featuring full-width secondary displays on their backs alongside several hardware upgrades.

Xiaomi 17 Pro

The 17 Pro is a compact flagship distinguished by its 2.7-inch secondary display with a 904 × 572 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 3,500 nits brightness with DC dimming. This panel can be used for selfies, notifications, calls, music controls, timers, wallpapers, and even as a retro-style mini game console with an optional case.

The main display is a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED (1–120Hz) using M10 luminescent material, also capable of 3,500 nits peak brightness, and protected by Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass.

The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with 12GB or 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB UFS 4.1 storage. Cooling is provided by a 4,637mm² vapor chamber.

A 6,300 mAh silicon-carbon battery supports 100W wired charging (Xiaomi or PPS), 50W wireless charging, and 22.5W reverse charging. The Surge G2 battery management chip is rated to preserve at least 80% of capacity after 2,000 cycles.

On the rear, the phone carries a 50MP main camera (1/1.28” Light Fusion 950L sensor, Leica Summilux f/1.67 lens, OIS), a 50MP periscope telephoto (5x zoom, f/3.0, OIS, macro capability at 20cm), and a 50MP ultra-wide with a 102° FoV. A new 3D ToF sensor is also included. The selfie camera has been upgraded to 50MP with a 90° FoV.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max

The Pro Max is the larger flagship, featuring a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display (1–120Hz, 12-bit colors, up to 3,500 nits, DC dimming). Its 2.9-inch secondary display (976 × 596 resolution) offers similar functionality to the Pro’s but is slightly larger.

It is also powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, with 12GB or 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB or 1TB UFS 4.1 storage. Cooling is handled by a 5,533mm² vapor chamber.

The battery capacity rises to 7,500 mAh, with 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 22.5W reverse wired/wireless charging.

Camera hardware mirrors the Pro in most respects: a 50MP main camera (1/1.28” Light Fusion 950L, f/1.67 Leica Summilux, OIS, LOFIC HDR), a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP selfie camera. The telephoto system differs, using a 1/2” ISOCELL GN8 sensor with a 5x f/2.6 lens, though its tele-macro shots require a 30cm distance (vs. 20cm on the Pro).

Both models are IP68-rated, with the 17 Pro surviving up to 4m in fresh water and the 17 Pro Max up to 6m.
