IPASON SmartBook S1 Review: A Budget-Friendly Powerhouse That Surprises

Posted on July 23, 2026

The IPASON SmartBook S1 is a slim and lightweight 14.1-inch laptop powered by an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor and featuring an impressive display, all at a price significantly lower than similar offerings from major brands.

Design and Build Quality

Featuring an aluminum-magnesium alloy chassis, the S1 measures 321 × 219.5 × 16.3 mm and weighs 1.48 kg. It feels sturdy enough for daily commute and everyday carry, sporting a clean and understated design. The lid lays completely flat at 180 degrees, making it convenient to share your screen or use the device on your lap. The power button integrates a fingerprint sensor for fast Windows Hello logins.

Display

The 14.1-inch Full HD (1920×1080) IPS panel covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut and features ultra-narrow 5 mm bezels. Colors are vibrant and accurate, making it well-suited for office work, web browsing, and video streaming. While peak brightness is not groundbreaking, outdoor visibility remains acceptable in most scenarios. The screen lacks touch support, which also helps keep costs down.

Performance and Everyday Use

Under the hood, it is powered by an Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor paired with Iris Xe graphics and 16GB of dual-channel DDR4-3200 memory (soldered, non-upgradable). For storage, it comes equipped with a 512GB NVMe SSD alongside a second M.2 slot for future expansion.

The S1 handles everyday workloads smoothly, including document editing, heavy web browsing with multiple open tabs, Zoom video calls, and light photo editing. The Iris Xe graphics deliver smooth 1080p video playback and can run older games at lower settings, though you should not expect it to handle demanding modern AAA titles.

Keyboard, Ports, and Battery Life

The backlit chiclet keyboard offers comfortable key travel and good tactile feedback. The touchpad is responsive enough for daily use. Port selection is generous: two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, an HDMI 1.4 port, a microSD card slot, and a headphone jack. The Type-C port supports charging (19–20V, minimum 65W), though it does not support PD fast charging.

The 55Wh battery boasts an official rating of around 10 hours. In real-world office conditions, battery life generally lands between 6 and 8 hours. Thermals remain well-controlled under light to moderate loads, with fan noise picking up noticeably only during heavy tasks.

Verdict

While the IPASON SmartBook S1 is by no means a flagship machine, it nails the fundamentals. If your daily tasks mainly consist of web browsing, writing, and video consumption, it remains an affordable and dependable choice. Pair it with a good USB-C charger, and it will handle your everyday productivity needs with ease.
